Hello, I'm looking into purchasing an alarm system for my home. I'd
like a relative comparison of the various companies available to help
decide which is the best for me. Also there's a "wireless vs.
hardwired" system debate that I'd be interested in finding out which
is better and why.
The companies I'm most interested in are Slomins, Honeywell, and
Protect America who have all given me quotes. I'm not interested in
anything about Protect One because they blew off two appointments I
had with them.
Basically I need help deciding which company to go with. To help you
out, here's what I have so far.
Slomins offered me a hardwired system for $396 full installed. It
will include 3 door sensors, 4 window sensors, a siren, keypad, motion
detector, and smoke detector. I would have to sign a 5 year contract
at $25.45 per month, and at the end of the 5 years I'd own the system.
Honeywell offered me all of the above as a wireless system (but with
an extra smoke detector) for $795 fully installed, with a 3 year
contract at $20/month.
Protect America offered me a free wireless system which I would have
to install myself, at $29.99/month. Based on some of what I've heard
about them, plus my own contact with them, leads me to be less
interested in them but I'd be curious to see if I'm missing anything.
I know ADT is another national but I never contacted them.
While price is a factor for me, it's not the most important - most
important to me is obviously the security of my family, which would
mean a reliable system which is not too susceptible to false alarms
and has good and reliable customer service. Thanks! |
