I am setting up an online store using osCommerce. What we want is 2
way communication between the accounting/inventory software in our
warehouse and osCommerce. Besides osCommerce, we can choose any
software for the rest of the operation (including accounting/inventory
management), suggestions?

1)   I want to be able to update the osCommerce database based on the
inventory information from the warehouse. This could involve a barcode
scanner. We want it to be as automatic as possible (e.g. scan the
barcode, enter # available in stock, and proceed to next item, etc. --
is there a better approach by the way?).

2)  I also want to update the warehouse inventory database based on
the internet sales we make.


What software combination works and is most cost-effective?

With the set up you are trying to achieve it maybe best to post this
to http://forums.oscommerce.com to see if your configeration is
possible, we have several customers with OS and have found them very
helpful, or you could post a request /quote on Elance.com they would
quote on either setting up the Barcode software or explain which
software or program would be compatable with OS to solve your

If you are a fairly technical user, or have technical resources
in-house, you might want to take at the OSSuite project.  This project
started as a strong effort to create a suite of applications create a
single platform of open-source ecommerce, customer management, supply
chain/fulfillment and accounting.

It would be perfect, but development on the project seems to have
stalled in the last 2 years, despite continuing public interest
(measured at SourceForge by traffic and downloads).  It looks like new
development efforts may now be underway, but there have not been any
recent official releases from the developer as yet.
