Years ago I read a series of books where the protaganist learns he's a teleporter when his "Bell is rung" by an aging teleport. Things like anti-teleporters, highly addictive drugs being used to try to coerce our herro, and a galactic spanning company controlling the teleporters are included in this series. Also, there is the concept of a dimension where momentum energy can be added/subtracted so the teleporter or items teleported can match the velocity of the destination and not keep the velocity of the source location. Anyone know the name of this series, books and/or the author? | |

Teleportation is a prominent part of EE "Doc" Smith's "Lensman" series. However, it has been so long since I read any of these stories that I don't know whether the story elements that you've mentioned are involved. |

I believe cptbyteme-ga is looking for the sadly OP (out-of-print) tetrology by Kevin O'Donnell about "flingers." The overall series name is "The Journeys of Mcgill Feighan." Shortly after Mcgill is born, the Far Being Retzglaren arrives, stays awhile and departs without communication. No one knows his purpose in visiting. The series slowly shows some of FRB's effects and plans... Mcgill grows up and gets a job as a rare flinger, setting in a room all day, focusing on a payload and *bip!* - it's gone to Alpha Centauri. Next payload, and another and another... What a dull life! But O'Donnell is a very good storyteller (try the OP novel Mayflies about an accidental slower-than-light multigeration starship if you need proof) and many things happen to Mcgill as he grows and changes as a character and teleporter.
