Question ID: 548432
I work for a copmany where we have over 50 desktops and over 20 servers.

I am looking for a tool that will make "inventory" management simpler.

Esentially, i want something whereby the network engineer can build
the network map, then we can "zoom in" to each computer/hardware part
and put in details about what it has such as:

* What hardware it consists of
* What software is installed on it
* What the license keys for the software are
* Support Parties / Contact Numbers
* Other Information

A graphical representation would be better than a non-graphical one.
Its somehting one could do in a spreadsheet, however, i'm sure there
must be a better product out there that support "inventory management"
as mentioned above.

A tool that runs on linux (or is web based) would be preferred.

Hi simrangambhir,

I believe Centennial Discovery meets all of your requirements.

Centennial Discovery: web-based interface / software auditing:
http://www.centennial.co.uk/prod_webacc.html

Here are two more possibilities -

Magic Inventory Manager
http://www.remedy.com/solutions/magic/additional_products/magic_inventory_manager.htm

Network Inventory Management
http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/service-desk/inventory-management.html

Additional Link of Interest:

Linux SNMP Network Management Tools

If you have any questions or if none of these are suitable, please
post a clarification request and wait for me to respond before
closing/rating my answer.

Thank you,
hummer

Hi,

I was actually looking for something more focused on inventory
management (manually) rather than scanners etc which scan the network
and try to manage things automatically...

Do you know of any good graphical tools like that... especially if
they run on linux.

simran.

Hi simran,

I'm sorry for misunderstanding your request. I'll have another look
and if I'm unable to come up with anything I'll ask the GA editors to
remove my answer which will open up the question again for all
researchers.

Regards,
hummer

Simran,

Have a look at this -

iInventory Manual [graphics included]
iInventory is downloadable software that lets you quickly audit
Windows, Mac and Linux computers for their hardware and software
configurations."

The answer was satisfactory.
I could have worded the question more clearly, but given the current
question, the answer was indeed satisfactory.
