My question is this,

When I was in Egypt I heard about a ring that bedouin men would give
to thier wife. Now this ring was special in that, on the ring was a
small map of the stars so that if she should ever get lost she could
find her way home. Now I have been looking for someone who has a ring
like this or someone who makes one. Preferably someone who makes one
custom would be great, and something tasteful, if I give her a Buck
Rogers Decoder ring I may need to ask how to best recover from head
trauma seeing as this will be for my future wife.

thanks
Paul

Hello little_milligan-ga,

I just wanted to let you know I have contacted a AMAZING custom
jewelry store in my area about designing this ring for you. I'm
currently waiting on an email back to see if they'd be willing to take
the project on, and if so, I'll give you their contact information. I
just wanted to let you know that a researcher was working on this and
what was going on.

Hi little_milligan-ga,

Here in Omaha, NE, we have a wonderful place called the Old Market.
It?s about eight or nine blocks filled with little shops, one of a
kind items, and tourist stuff as well. There?s nothing more I like to
do than go down there with a book, wander the shops, and read while
having a glass of wine.

Anyway, there?s a jewelry shop down there that always makes me drool
on the cases. It?s called Goldsmith Silversmith, and they make
BEAUTIFUL custom designed jewelry. Some of their tension mounted rings
are to DIE for!

There are seven artists that design there, and the one I wrote to was
Dwaine Ferguson. You can see his work here:
http://www.goldsmithsilversmith.com/index2.html

What they will do is speak with you, create a sketch, carve a wax, or
build the piece, and once all the consultations are done and it is
exactly to your liking, they will cast the piece.

He said that your star map ring looked like something they could do
for you and wanted me to put you into contact with them. I sent them
your description and picture of the one from Japan that Scriptor-ga
found below in the comments.

You can email Dwaine at work@goldsmithsilversmith.com
Local # 402-342-1737
Fax # 402-346-8357
Out-of-area # 1-888-343-9373

They can be a bit slow on the response times as they?re busy at work.
Their hours are:
11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday
11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday
11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Also, something that might interest you as well with this project is
actually getting the ?star map? from above your city for her. That
way, it?s ?accurate? if she ever needs to find her way back home to
you ?

That site allows you to get a star map from your viewing location so
that you?ll have an actual map of the view above your city.

If this answer requires further explanation, please request
clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into this
further.

I can't envision a usable star map that would be small enough to fit
on a ring. I've seen jewelry that depicted a single constellation, but
not the entire night sky.

Well, the only such ring I have found sells for 20,050 Yen (about
$180.00). It should be expensive enough to impress your fiancée, but I
don't know if you'd like to order it from Japan, and if you like the
design at all.

Paul,
you might want to think about the star constellation you want on the
ring, her or your sign of the zodiac, perhaps, Southern Cross, Big and
Little Dippers, whatever she could need to find the way home. :)

Watch for the shooting stars the night of August 12th.
