I have a dell pc with a 17 inch monitor and its all pretty up to date
stuff running windows XP home edition. All of a sudden, my we pages
dont fill the screen. there is a 2-3 inch border of background color
on the sides of the web pages. the web pages appear small with small
text. I have tried changing the displace characteristics but doesn't
really help. If I increase the font size, the text gets bigger but
the pages are still too narrow for the screen. This happened to me
once before with another pc and someone told me how to fix it but I
can't remember what the fix was. Could this be a virus or something
someone otherwise downloaded to me? I had been using IE but last week
changed to Mozilla Firefox to avoid future problems. Help.

I don't really have a clear picture of what you're seeing.
It sounds like the browser window in which the web page is
appearing is simply reduced in size, in which case you can
simply move the window so the top and left sides align with
the top and left sides of your monitor, and then grab the
bottom right corner with your mouse and drag that down to
the bottom right corner of the monitor window. This should
expand the browser window to fill the monitor completely.

If you're experiencing something else, please try describing
it again in a different manner. If possible, a screen shot
would be helpful.

If you go back and try Internet Explorer, try pressing F11. That
*should* fill the screen. If it does, then press F11 again, and press
the 2nd from the right box (it has a picture of two small boxes) on
the top right of your internet explorer window. Also for font sizes
find 'View' and then go to 'Text Size' and click a larger size. Hope
this helps.
