In what country would you be purchasing this laptop? (I presume that
a$2000 refers to Australian dollars, and thus that you are located in
Australia.)

What are your main criteria for "best"?

Is there a particular publication or website whose rating of "best" you would trust?

Hi
Ask a better question ... get a better answer.
In Australia: Yes I'm here.
Define Best: Best value for money. I spent a great deal of time trying
to compare apples with apples but every site I found would not do any
sort of comprehensive comparison. They were all more interested in
selling their notebooks rather than offering a cold comparison. For
this reason, I would like to decline the offer to link me up with a
third-party site, unless it offered clear comparisons on models that
were available in Perth, Western Australia.

I'm only a layman but factors i consider important include:
The complete model names of the notebook in question. Often you find
out too late that the A80 for eg is a completely different model to
the A80i. What does the name of the device actually mean (if anything)
Support: on-site or go-to or mail-to or other?
CPU: Which is better? Faster? Most efficient?
Display: Best? brightest? Most reliable?
Build quality: Sturdiness, heat
Brand: Reputation, known problems etc.
Battery Life:
Memory: Is the graphics memory shared with the RAM?
Connectivity:
Security:

Thanks

I believe that your question would require more time and effort to
answer than the average amount of time and effort associated with this
price. While there might conceivably be one answer, it would take a
little while to search for it -- and even then there might be multiple
contenders for "best" and thus no one clear answer.
