Question ID: 549452
how can I map my "browser back" and "browser forward" keys to the
Windows key and Windows Menu Key, respectively, on my IBM Thinkpad
T43p? I am running Windows XP.

I would prefer not to have to use any kind of TSR or systray-resident
add-on tool, such as a keyboard macro tool. I am looking for a way to
map this without degrading the performance of the system.

Also, the solution must not alter the functionality of actually
pressing "Alt-Left" and "Alt-Right" which is basicall all the browser
keys do anyway. Again, this would probably rule out keyboard macro
tools like Keyboard Express.

Do you hae a standard IBM install?

Does the folder Start->Programs->Access IBM folder exist?

If so, is there a keyboard re-mapper program in there?

Here's a suggested starting place:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/input/w2kscan-map.mspx

I've used this technique successfully on multiple computers to switch
the capslock and ctrl keys. The trick in your case is to figure out
the scan code for the windows key and the windows menu key. This page
should help:

Happy keyboarding!

Yes, I do have an Access IBM program, and I checked that before asking
the question. Unfortunately, it does not look like it will let me
reassign the Back and Forward keys to the Windows and Application
keys. Only Shift, Alt, etc.

Also, regarding the scan code links below, that seems promising, but
how do I find out the scan codes of the forward and backward keys? It
seems as though they are simply hard linked to "Alt-Left" and
"Alt-Right"??
