The artist was Paul Moro, who was born in Bettola, Italy in 1886, and
emigrated to New York in 1909. He started as a copyist and restorer
before moving on to paint original works. His last public exhibition
was in 1934; after that time the demands of his work in art
restoration were too consuming for him to have time to devote to
painting. Several of his works were purchased by the Hirschhorn Museum
(the Smithsonian Institute's museum of contemporary and modern art).
Paul Moro died in 1953.
