I saw a video clip on a compilation about the birth of rock n roll.
There was a gospel singer (a large african-american woman) who was
playing the electric guitar. I want to know her name and what her
famous song is called. The song sounds like a mix of gospel and
Elvis-styled rock, most likely performed in the 1950s.

Do you recall where and when you saw this compilation? The title of
the compilation would be ideal; but any other information such as the
television station could be useful.

The only things I remeber from this compilation that I saw in high
school was that it featured other musicians like Fats Dominoe, the
Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, and other short clips tracing the
history of the rock genre. Sorry I cannot even recall a title.

It's hard to figure out without seeing the video clip, however is this
who you're looking for?

If not, try to provide a URL to the movie clip you saw.

It does not look like Ruth Brown is who I am looking for. I recall
that the gospel woman who played electric guitar was backed by a full
gospel choir, and the song was much more upbeat than the blues that
Brown performed. The performance was more like gospel than blues
inspired. thank you.
