I saw a video clip on a compilation about the birth of rock n roll. There was a gospel singer (a large african-american woman) who was playing the electric guitar. I want to know her name and what her famous song is called. The song sounds like a mix of gospel and Elvis-styled rock, most likely performed in the 1950s. | |

It's hard to figure out without seeing the video clip, however is this who you're looking for? http://www.rockhall.com/hof/inductee.asp?id=72 If not, try to provide a URL to the movie clip you saw. |

It does not look like Ruth Brown is who I am looking for. I recall that the gospel woman who played electric guitar was backed by a full gospel choir, and the song was much more upbeat than the blues that Brown performed. The performance was more like gospel than blues inspired. thank you. |
