What are the 100 best public elementary (K-6) schools in the USA? (if not USA then Florida and Colorado) I would consider "best" as defined by 1) highest possible reading/writing/math test scores, 2) lowest teacher/student ratio, 3) highest percent of PHD or masters teachers, 4) highest $ spent per child, and then try to factor in reputation. |

It won't be easy to answer the question as you'd like. One thing you can do is search for "excellent" elementary schools in Colorado at (http://www.cde.state.co.us/index_home.htm). There are about 60. Click on "Accountability Reports," then on "Advanced Search." Florida has 580 elementary schools that got an "A" rating from the state Education Department. See (http://www.firn.edu/doe/schoolgrades/). You can also check out the federal list of "Blue Ribbon" schools at (http://bcol01.ed.gov/CFAPPS/blueribbon/select_sch.cfm?selyear=2001). |

Here's an article which helps illustrate why school rankings are a bit suspect - "19 Of America's 'Finest' Schools Are 'Failing'", USA Today, August 5, 2002. http://www.rense.com/general27/19ofamericasschools.htm |
