My girlfriend has a ATI AIW 9800 Pro that is giving me major pain. The
audio cuts out after less than a minute of watching TV on the ATI TV
viewing app. The picture continues, but the audio does not, and the
computer is unresponsive or just crashes. Before it crashes,
everything appears fine and I can change channels etc. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled Catalyst and all 3 compononents for the
MMC (now at 9.08). This hasn't helped. The card works fine for games
(e.g. BF2).

Specs:

Asus P4C800-E
P4 @ 3.0
1GB RAM
2 x 160GB HD
ATI AIW 9800 Pro
Audigy 2 ZS

What version of Direct X have you got installed? You may need a newer
version, which you can find at http://www.microsoft.com

A snippet of a similar problem may be your solution:

..."ATi usues phillips TV Tuner cards, which have serious issues with
Audigy 2 ZS cards(possibly all Audigy2 cards)..."

Try to install latest Audigy Soundcard drivers:
