Hi,
I am researching the idea of a business based on selling small pc
units to car owners who own/will own a car DVD player without the
Navigation capability.
The main functionlity added would be internet browsing and Navigation
with additional features being secondary. I have found various
websites that sell such units which are big (approx 9x8x2 inches).
Also they are expensive( about $1000 or more)
My contention is that since Laptops are available for $500 these days
why can't I find one cheaper than this. I do not need these units to
have battery, DVD drive, Screen, keyboard and too much hard drive.
what I need:
1: any products similar to what I am looking for:
2: If no good products avilable then possible sources/prices of the
main components like Motherboard,Processor, hard drive, power source and
other essential components needed to put these products. Any companies
that can design it for me.

Please also see another part of the question in other section.

I would suggest used mac mini's (under $500) running Route 66 software

http://www.66.com/route66/products.php?cid=US&sec=1&ssec=0&prodid=716

for the navigation needs. The biggest problem is finding a screen for
it but you say that you do not need one. Here is one installed:

and another install with more details:

And while you are running the GPS antenna for route66, run a wifi
antenna as well for checking email at reststops:
