Question ID: 550279
Did Sandy Koufax ever allow three or more earned runs in the first
inning of any official Major League game? (This is to be construed as
including World Series games, but not including any sort of exhibition
game.) Documentation of only one game would sufficiently answer this
question. A link to where this information can be found is
sufficient, though comments, etc. are certainly welcome. If it can be
documented that Koufax DID NOT ever allow 3 runs in the first inning,
this would also be a satisfactory answer to this question.

Hello burrhus,

On April 22, 1960, Sandy Koufax's line was five earned runs and no
outs in the first inning.

Of the years available on Retrosheet, I thought that the earliest
(1960) would be best, because Koufax wasn't yet the dominating pitcher
of his later career.
