Hello,

Today, an opportunity arose for me at my workplace. I have a
chance of moving up and dabbling in being a salesman for my employer.
What I need to know is:

1. Since "www.elance.com" and "www.smarterwork.com" doesn't really
relate to my field, I need some help finding some websites in which
salesman in my field (CNC machining, custom fabrication) could go to bid
on potential projects. Or any website for that matter that will get me
to some potential customers.

2. A good source for someone who doesn't have much experience in sales
to learn some basics and get some great tips from other salesmen.

I really want to make a good impression and bring in some business to
show I can do this, can anyone help?

I know about Thomas registry, but I don't know if there is a section
that relates to my question. If you need ANY clarifications, just ask,
and I will answer asap. I will also tip well for a a good lead. Thanks!

Gary

Hello Smitno,

I may be able to help you. I am a GM at a manufacturing company. We
have CNC Machines and a weld and fab shop.

If I understand your question you have the chance to become a salesman
for your company. A company that will bid on machining and fab jobs.
Is that right?

I doubt if you are going to find a website that will produce quality
leads on work that you can bid on.

I know from my own personal experience we like to at a minimum talk
with the company on the phone and get a package from them and a list
of references.

We would never have someone bid online b/c you don't know who you are
dealing with and their quality etc.

If I were you and just starting this position I would do a net search
for manufacturers in the geographic area that you plan on covering. I
would then try to become familiar with the product line of the
potential manufacturer and give them a call. Try to set up an
appointment with the buyer for the company and see what happens.

Don't let rude people that hang up on you discourage you. You will
have to get a very thick skin to be good at this job. Sales can be
ruthless. I have been screamed at on more than one occassion.

If you need more help please post and I will be glad to help.

John
