Hello,

Sunglasses were invented by the Inuit (Eskimos) of the Arctic to block
out the glare of the sun off the snow. They were goggles made of bone
with small slits in them. See this doctor's page
(http://drworkman.optometry.net/serv/index.asp?action=Edit&serv_id=6613)
or this science-education page
(http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/optics/activities/teachers/eyeglasses.html).

Modern sunglasses were invented by Sam Foster in 1929 and were first
sold at the Woolworth's in Atlantic City, according to several
sources, including the Santa Fe Reporter
(http://www.sfreporter.com/archive/06-12-02shades.html) and Fashion
for Real Women (http://www.fashionforrealwomen.com/articles/glasses.htm).

I hope this is the information you need. If not, please request
clarification.
