I'm looking for a UK company that I read about in a magazine (BA in-flight magazine possibly) a couple of years ago that was set up to undertake any work requiring bulk corrections and fixes to any sort of item that has manufacturing or design defects. They do things like removing logos from products because a spelling mistake was made in the screenprinting and it wasn't spotted during production. Because the products they work on aren't usually worth very much they aim to do the work at a very low price. I suspect they use low-skilled, temporary labour to keep the costs down. I have several thousand plastic moulds that need a small piece cut out, to get a machine shop to do this would be prohibitively expensive so a low-cost operation where the work can be done by hand would be the answer. If this particular company can't be found then similar companies who do the same work would be okay; would need to be UK based though. |

If it's the one I remember reading about, it's Instant Muscle. There is contact info at http://www.charitiesdirect.com/charity3/ch001953.htm and at http://beehive.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/default.asp?WCI=SiteHome&ID=8053&PageID=43179 (This site has more info) Another possibility might be prison workshops. http://www.hmpenterprises.co.uk/ Contact information for working with plastics production is at http://www.hmpenterprises.co.uk/plastics.htm Owain |

Hi Owain Thanks for your information. It's not exactly the company I was looking for, the one I was thinking about specialises in recovering defective goods; although the links you've provided are possibilities and I'll look into them. The difficulty I have is that the plastic mouldings are from high precision injection moulds (as apposed to vacuum form tooling) and need to be carefully worked if they are to be recovered. |
