From the web: "Copenhagen's most famous tourist attraction, the Little
Mermaid sits on a rock overlooking the harbour. Created by Edward
Eriksen in 1913 who was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's
fairytale, the model for the Mermaid was dancer Ellen Price."

Many 'Little Mermaid' replicas exist around the world in places such
as in Osaka, Japan; Piatra Neamt, Romania; and Kimballton, Iowa, USA.

I would like a list of all known locations of 'Little Mermaid'
replicas and the stories, if possible, about how they came to be located
outside of Denmark.

Note: A tip will be paid for stories of other similar landmark mermaids (ie. not
based on the Copenhagen sculture) around the world.

Thank you

Hello Uzz,

I have located only 4-5 additional replicas of The Little Mermaid
statue. Researchers are reluctant to answer questions that require
"ALL" of something, as one can never be sure we find ALL.

Would these additional statues be adequate for an answer?

When Aldersly residents were faced with the task of moving the

Plymouth Flying Lady
--------------------
?Over the years these radiator caps have come to be known as "the
Flying Lady." Only the Fairbanks family seems to know who she really
is. Take a close look, the next time you see one; take a closer look
at the point where her hips emerge from the swirling waves and where
her tail disappears topside. Notice the little ridges that represent
her fishy scales. She's a mermaid, all right!?

Useless Information
--------------------
For over 30 years I had confused a Little Mermaid replica with The
Norwegian Lady statue in Virginia Beach, VA, where I spent much of my
childhood. I took this question because I ?remembered? that mermaid
statue. When I found absolutely nothing about it online, I called the
City of Virginia Beach and spoke to a very knowledgeable man named
Mark Reed told me the statue I remembered at 25th street was the
Norwegian Lady! Another childhood memory shattered! I thought I might
bring it to your attention anyway.

Uzzz,

Here is one that is not a replica, though there are similarities; the
Danish one is just too good to avoid any subsequent one not being
similar.
The significant similarity is that this one also has two lower limbs,
which goes counter to tradition. You probably know the story, that
the man who ordered the "Little Mermaid" insisted that she should just
have a fish tail.

http://www.ostsee.de/boltenhagen/meerjungfrau.html

This bronze sculpture appeared on Jan 1 2005 on the beach of the named
place, that is on the German Baltic coast. At that time, no one knew
who made it or placed it there. (I don't know if this is now known.)
It is a great attraction and the town has decided that it may remain.

OOOps! He (Jacobsen) "insisted that she should NOT just have a fish tail."

(Who would want to have a sculture of a ballerina with no legs?)

Uzzz,
This German website describing the Bosporus for sailors includes a
photo and explanitory text about another mermaid. Scroll down a bit
till you see her.

http://www.insidersegeln.de/revier/Revier/bodrummarmaris.html

My translation of the pertinent text:

"Sadun Boro, the old man of Turkish yachting, had a special idea: at
the entrance to the furthest corner of the bay Degirmen Bükü (in the
Gulf of Gökova) he had a small mermaid placed on a rock. The figure
is from the studio of an Istanbul artist and could be confused to be a
replica of the mermaid in Copenhagen."
