Hello sigourney,

As stated in the disclaimer at the bottom of this page, answers and
comments provided on Google Answers are general information, and are
not intended to substitute for informed professional legal advice.

The Mexican embassy in Canada has two pages with similar information
on recognition in Canada of a Mexican marriage certificate for
non-Mexicans:

"Requirements for Foreigners who wish to Marry in Mexico -- 1.
Marrying another Canadian Citizen or a Non-Mexican in Mexico -- D.
Recognition of Mexican marriage certificate"
Embassy of Mexico in Canada
http://www.embamexcan.com/CONSULAR/FQGettingMarried.shtml#RM

"Requirements for Foreigners who wish to Marry in Mexico -- C.
Legalization of Mexican documents"
Embassy of Mexico in Canada
http://www.embamexcan.com/CONSULAR/FQGettingMarried-SecondPart.shtml##LegalizationMexican

The Canadian embassy in Mexico refers to the first of the pages cited above.

"Marriage and Divorce in Mexico" [last paragraph]
Embassy of Canada in Mexico
http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/mexico-city/consular/marriage_divorce_mexico-en.asp

It doesn't appear that the City of Toronto or the Province of Ontario
have anything to say on this issue.

"Frequently asked questions about . . . Birth, death, marriage and divorce"
City of Toronto
http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/faq/birthdeathmarriage.htm
["Where do I get a birth, death or marriage certificate?": "Births,
deaths and marriages are recorded by the province through the
Registrar General, Ministry of Consumer and Business Services."]

"Request for Marriage or Death Certificates"
Government of Ontario: Ministry of Consumer and Business Services:
Office of the Registrar General
http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/AttachDocs/007-11075E~2~1/$File/TXT_11075E.htm
["Application Instructions": "Please note that the attached
application form applies only to Ontario deaths or marriages. The
Office of the Registrar General cannot provide any information
regarding deaths or marriages that happened outside of Ontario."]

I assume that you may contact the Embassy of Mexico in Canada or the
Embassy of Canada in Mexico for further information.

If your wedding is recognized by Mexican law, you have no need to
register it in Canada, as both countries are members of the Hague
Convention.
