We are looking for a group calendar that does the following:
We represent different types of artists, they fall into the following:
Cinematographers
Production Designers
Wardrobe Stylists
Hair Stylists
Makeup Artists
Hair and Makeup Artists
They have different types of dates they hold for:
Hold ? meaning they are being considered for a job but their days
aren?t definite. Vague over all terms for jobs that we aren?t sure of.
We don?t always get a breakdown of dates
Booking is when a artist actually gets hired. Some jobs might have
days a person is booked for an days they are holding.
Hold ? Shoot ? holding for what would be a shoot day
Hold ? Travel ? Holding for what would be a travel day. This is
important as this is the one type of day that can overlap
Hold ? Prep/Tech ? holding for a prep/tech day
Hold ? Fitting ? hold for a fitting day ? when fitting actors for clothes
Hold ? Meeting ? hold for a meeting day
Hold ? Personal
Booking ? sometimes a artist is booked but we haven?t gotten a
breakdown for the job
Booking ? Shoot ? holding for what would be a shoot day
Booking ? Travel ? Holding for what would be a travel day. This is
important as this is the one type of day that can overlap
Booking ? Prep/Tech ? holding for a prep/tech day
Booking ? Fitting ? hold for a fitting day ? when fitting actors for clothes
Booking ? Meeting ? hold for a meeting day
Booking ? Personal
We want the following views.
To see different types of dates graphically. Something easily
differentiated. We have 30 artists who might have 10 holds/bookings
each composed of different types of days so this can easily be
confused.
1. All holds/bookings for each type of artists(ie cinematographers,
production designers, etc). Month view and maybe week.
2. All holds/bookings for a particular artist. Month view and maybe
week. So we can send our artists their calendars.
Feel free to ask questions but this should give you an overview |

Hi gagagogo,
I have a feeling that most scheduling systems that are available are
more than you need and just a nice color-coded Gantt Chart may be what
you are looking for.
Gantt Chart example:

That said, do any of the following sound suitable?

Inentertainment - no.
Rather than give me a list of links, have you check each of these to
see that they meet the criteria I listed? Would you like to ask me
questions about the criteria?
Thanks

The question does nor fully and clearly describes what the calendar has to do,
and what the user(s) is/are willing and able to do to set-up the calendar.
I will paraphrase your requirements, as I undestand them.
Please let us know if it is a fair description:
There is over 10 categories of users: artists who do makup, styling ..
users engage in activities: shooting, meeting, travel .. (
activities have attributes :
hold (preliminary reservation) or booked (confirmed order) ..
There is over 30 users, over ten activities, two attributes
Activities have time interval (from to) measured in days (not hours)
Month view and maybe week view is required which will
show calendar for each user (indicate activities/attributes by color)
show calendar for each category ( show users (or groups?) scheduled (by color?)
Several existing calendar packages have potential for displaying such data.
Please clarify : do all users all only admin(s) enter data (assigments)
Is the operator (you) running his/her own website
How much IT expertise operator has (directly or via consultant)
e.g. can they customise a PHP script or (easier :
or can they learn how to administer this group calendar:
http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php?topic=Screenshots
There is an a demo of this one
http://webcalendar.sourceforge.net/demo/week.php
You can login (as an admin) and try to set up groups and colors
http://webcalendar.sourceforge.net/demo/login.php
Please try to run it and report your experience.
If it cannot be do something described above
kindly amend the spec in the terms I suggested.
If you agree that it (probably) can do the job, you may invite me to
proceed to Answer and dialog may continue on how to install it and set it up.
