I recently moved to Palo Alto, CA. I would like to find out what are
the best places to meet single women. I will be satisfied with the
answer that will list the name of the place, day of the week, type of
the crowd. The focus should be on Palo Alto and near by cities
(Mountain View, Menlo Park, etc) I would appreciate advice on San
Francisco and San Jose as well.

Hello, curious_mind_1970-ga!

I have compiled several avenues for you to pursue, both in terms of
singles-dating agencies and other groups. The best advice I can give
is to be an organizer yourself. As my colleague mentioned in the
comments below, Craigslist is a great place to put an ad and organize
some get-togethers for singles. It is usually easiest to meet other
single women if you get out of the "dating mode" mindset and join
organizations/groups that attract a variety of single people. The
Meetup groups website is a good place to start.

Since you have not mentioned your age, or your interests, I could not
specifically pinpoint any groups that might be tailored to you. I hope
the following references provide a good starting point.

===================================
Bay Area Outdoor Adventure Club
===================================
http://sanfrancisco.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sfoac.com%2F

"Although we are not a singles club, most members are single (in their
20s, 30s and 40s), and like meeting other single adventurers in
non-sappy, fun environments... like in a single engine airplane while
skydiving, or on a neighboring crack on a wall in Joshua Tree. Members
are beginners at many activities, and experts at some. Thus, we offer
instructions for beginners, and challenges and partners for expert
adventurers."

100 volunteer leaders who organize activities including: dayhiking,

bicycling, car camping, sea kayaking, environmental education
programs, social events such as dances, and cultural events such as
visits to special museum exhibits. Our leaders organize approximately
50 activities each month. Most of the activities have no charge; the
few activities for which fees are collected are priced to break even."

"There are currently over 1000 subscribers to the San Francisco Bay
Chapter Sierra Singles Schedule. Most of these subscribers are in the
age range of late 20s to early 50s; however, anyone over 21 years of
age is welcome to attend any activity."

Bay Area Linkup (you will need to join to view the events)

"It's easy to use Bay Area Linkup. Here are some examples:

* Find an event of interest to you, RSVP on the site, and attend the event.
* Create your own event! If you create an event of interest and benefit to
others, your RSVPs will fill up right away. Events as large as fifteen
people or more often fill up within only an hour or two of being
announced, when they are interesting enough.
* If you meet someone you want to stay in touch with, you can drop them a note
on the web site by selecting the mail icon:
* Search the site for others who share your profession or your interests, and
drop them a note. Just don't overdo it, or you'll be perceived as a spammer.

Hurry Date
===========

"Started in the Big Apple by Ken Deckinger and Adele Testani,
HurryDate is a super fun new way to meet people. We bring together
tons of singles, a cool bar, lots of drinks and a wild, anything-goes
vibe to make each HurryDate party a total head-spinning blast. It's a
great way to meet lots of new people, while avoiding the agonizing
four-hour blind date gone bad. Maybe you're looking to end your dating
dry spell. Maybe you just got dumped and are looking for the perfect
rebounder. Maybe you're looking for a new tennis partner. Maybe you
just want to conduct your own personal study on the favorite ice cream
flavors of single people. In any case, you've never experienced
anything quite like HurryDate speed dating on your typical night out
after work. In three minutes you'll have no problem weeding out the
"yeah babys" from the "not if my life depended on its." It's quick,
painless and really fun! REALLY!"

Hi CM,

What age group are you seeking? Not sure I can help a lot, as I have
the same problem having moved to Palo Alto a year ago, but I can give
you a few pointers.

The biggest problem I have found is that Palo Alto is a college
student and married town. Of course, one can meet women anywhere
including Whole Foods and Noah's bagels. But the odds seem diminished
here on the Peninsula. I have met singles at Gordon Biersch. And if
you are lucky enough to get in the door, the New Orleans restaurant
bar that escapes me on Ramona Street.

Down on California Ave, which we call Palo Alto for beginners, try La
Bodega De Medio and be sure to try their mojito.

In Deadwood....er Redwood City, the Little Fox Theater gets great
local and national acts and can be one of the better spots to hook up.

San Fran and San Jose have too much to begin to mention. The old
fallback, of course, is the Marina with Union Street between Laguna
and Fillmore and Fillmore itself just north of Union. Friday and Sat
night is a singles vision to behold.

But honestly, my best luck has come from Craig's List
(www.craigslist.org). Seems to be very well read in almost every age
group in the Bay Area and has a Peninsula group for those of us here.

If you are fortunate enough to be around 30 or younger, Palo Alto
should do well for you. If not, the city or Craig's would be my
destinations.

Good luck.If I think of more, I'll post as comments for you. Let me
know the age group and perhaps I can be even more helpful.

Regards,

Subject: Don,t listen to me

I don,t know if I should comment because I got rejected from online
dating service. That is by the service itself, not by any of the
members. I went through it all to see what is out of the ordinary that
could have cause the rejection before any members had a chance to see
my profile. I realized since only the company is involved, it must be
money and I realized that my income is low. Which these days
translates into loser in many areas. Reference for comparison is the
experience I had being wealthy.
