I have found several cleaning tips for you. Some methods may not
work as well as others, since carpets are made from different
materials and previously used carpet cleaners may inhibit a cleaner?s
activity. Blotting up the stain when it is fresh is the key to stain
removal.
General Tips:
=============
Test the cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous part of the fabric or
carpet before using them on a large area.
Always use a white cloth rather than a colored one to prevent any dyes
from coming off on the carpet or fabric.
As you blot, keep turning the cloth so that you are using a clean, dry
section to pick up the stain and cleaning fluids from the carpet.
Don't rub.
Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the stain excessively. This can cause the
stain to further penetrate the fabric.
For some stains the trick is to keep going. Continue to blot, continue
to rinse, it takes time to remove some stains.

Club Soda: Always Keep it on Hand
Club soda is the best emergency spotter there is. Keep club soda on
hand to clean up spills on carpet and clothing. Remember to react as
soon as possible to a spill. If you act fast, a spot shouldn't become
a stain. Club soda will remove red wine, coffee, tea, pop (yes even
red pop!) Kool-Aid? and any other spills you can think of. Lift any
solids carefully off carpet or clothes and then pour on the club soda,
blotting with an old rag until all the color from the spill is
removed. Don't be afraid to really wet the carpet, it won't hurt
it-carpet goes through countless dippings in water as it is made. Blot
carpet easily by folding a rag and standing on it, turning the rag as
it absorbs moisture and discoloration from the spill. The carbonation
in the club soda brings the offending spill to the surface so that you
can blot it up, and the salts in it will help prevent staining.

Follow these instructions to remove: Coffee
1) Scoop up and blot as much of the spill as possible. Vacuum up any
dry particles.
2) Prepare suggested cleaning solutions below, beginning with the
first one listed.
3) Pretest the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous spot of carpet
to ensure it does not discolor or damage the carpet.
4) Apply the cleaning solution to the stain area. Work from the
outside of the stain toward the center.
5) Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the spill for at least five minutes.
6) Blot with a clean white cloth until no more stain transfers to the
cloth. Do not rub the stain area or you might damage the carpet
fibers.
7) Rinse with cold water. Be sure all cleaning solution is removed from carpet.
8) If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until either
the stain is removed or the stain no longer transfers to the cloth.
9) If the stain remains, try the next solution on the list and follow
the same protocol above. If the stain persists after trying each
solution listed, contact a professional cleaner. 10) Once the stain
is removed, place layers of white paper towel on the site to absorb
any moisture. Weight down the towels with a non-staining glass or
ceramic object. You can let them sit overnight.
11) When the carpet is dry, vacuum to restore the texture.
Cleaning Solutions for Coffee
Detergent Solution
· Mix 1/4 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap with one cup warm water.
Vinegar Solution
· Mix 2 tablespoons white vinegar with 4 cups warm water.

Using a CLEAN WHITE cloth, try the following, from eHow
1. Blot the area with a clean, white cloth to absorb all the liquid
you can. Blot from the outside of the stain in to avoid spreading the
stain.
2. Mix 1 teaspoon clear, mild liquid dishwashing detergent with 1 cup
lukewarm water.

4. Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup lukwarm water.
5. Sponge the area with the vinegar solution. Blot with a clean, white cloth.

Removing Coffee and Tea From Carpets
To remove a coffee stain from fabric or a rug, try one of these methods:
· Dip a white cloth into a beaten egg yolk and rub the yolk into the
stain. Then rinse with clear water.
· Work denatured alcohol into the stain, then rinse with water.
· Apply a solution of 1/2 teaspoon mild detergent in a pint of water.
Blot with a white towel. If the stain remains, apply a 50-50 solution
of water and white vinegar and blot.

Removal tips for food and drink stains on synthetic carpet (includes:
wine, ketchup, chocolate, coffee, tea, beer, milk, tomato sauce,
berries, hard candy, juice, soda, gatorade, Kool-Aid).
Example: ketchup stain on a carpet square
1. You want to use a plain, old translucent dishwashing detergent.
Combine 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with 1 cup of lukewarm
water.
2. Dip a white cloth, or a plain, white paper towel, into the solution
and press it on the spot for about 15 seconds. Wait 15 minutes. It
takes time to break down the stain.
3. Soak up the excess liquid with a dry, white cloth.
4. Next, dip a plain cloth into a solution of one cup white vinegar
with two cups water. Dab repeatedly, then press the cloth on the spot
for a few seconds. Wait another 15 minutes -- this is an important
step because white vinegar will remove the residual detergent, which
will attract dirt if left in the carpet. For bad spills, place a
1/2-inch thick stack of white paper towels on the stain, and lay a
glass-baking dish on top for 15 minutes.

·1 tsp white vinegar
·1/2 tsp ammonia
·3 cup water
Directions:
Beat into a lather or put in a foam-producing bottle. Spray on, leave
a couple minutes and rub off. Because so little ammonia is being used
in such a large quantity of water, it does not leave a strong ammonia
smell. I did this on a very large spot, and it really works! Just be
sure to do a test spot first to make sure the dye in the material
doesn't fade.

applying downward pressure

?The best thing I have found to use on carpet stains, especially
coffee, are the pre-treatment products that you find in the
vacuum/carpet cleaner area of department stores such as Wal-Mart,
KMart, etc. Brand names include Bissell, Hoover, etc. and are meant to
be used prior to shampooing carpeting, but I prefer to use them on
their own. These treatments can be sprayed on a dry stain and then
lightly brushed before sitting for the ten minutes and can repeated if
necessary. Do not saturate the carpet and be sure to dab with a cloth
or even a paper towel to get the extra moisture up.
I do not recommend products like Resolve. They work well but have an
oil base that attracts dirt to the spot making an even uglier
situation.?

Something I have used with success is one of the ?Oxy? cleaners. I mix
it up per directions, with warm water, so it dissolves well. Then I
use the clean and blot method described above. For the future, for
the best success in stain removal, blot, don?t rub, the stain
immediately. Blot and blot and blot till the carpet is practically
dry.
