Hello answerme120,
A definition of Taxes is a "system used by governments to obtain money
from people and organizations. The revenue collected is used by the
government to support itself and to provide public services. Aside
from being relatively permanent, taxation is compulsory and does not
guarantee a direct relationship between the amount contributed by a
citizen and the extent of governmental services provided to him."

Taxation in the United States may involve tax payments to at least
four different levels of government:
- Local / municipal / township / district / county governments
- Regional taxation to schools, utilities or transit districts
- State government
- Federal government
Tax-payer agencies, also known as Departments of Revenue, Office of
Tax and Revenue or Revenue and Labor Agencies have the primary goals
of increasing tax compliance, providing timely and accurate
information to taxpayers, and promptly processing tax returns and
refunds.
They serve as the tax collection agency for state government and for
local governments and try to maximize the collection of taxes. They
also may regulate the any of the state's legel gaming and/or state?s
horse racing industry etc., administer the state?s lottery, and
regulate the manufacture, distribution and sale of alcoholic
beverages. Some agencies or departments oversee local property tax
assessments and collect delinquent child support.
