I was about to post the following as an answer:

"Having had similar problems myself, I believe that the problem is
caused by a change in the default font settings in your web browser.
I assume that you use Internet Explorer as your web browser - if you
use any other broswer, tell me, and I'll give you the solution for
that browser as well.

1. Start Internet Explorer
2. Under the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options"
3. Click the "Fonts" button at the bottom of the dialog box that appeared
4. Select the fonts you wish to use as default fonts for web pages.
The standard choices are:
    - Language script: "Latin based"
    - Web page font: "Times New Roman"
    - Plain text font: "Courier"
5. Click the OK button to close the "Fonts" dialog box
6. Click the OK button to close the "Internet Options" dialog box

Web pages should now look OK."

Then it struck me that this only works for web pages that does not
define which fonts should be used when displaying them.
www.google.com prefers to use the "Arial" font if it is available. It
seems like the font you don't like has replaced your computer's Arial
font, or that the Arial font has been deleted and the troublesome font
is being used as an replacement.

Could you please check if the Arial font is available in other
applications, such as a word processor (Microsoft Word or similar)?

I have experienced this problem myself.

In the end I found that this "malicious font" simply had the font name
"Times" and as such my browser kept using it when it had previously
loaded "Times New Roman" as the default font.

I would suggest you do the following to check to see if this is the same for you:
 1) Open Microsoft Word, or a similar program that allows you to use fonts,
 2) Look for a font called "Times" or similar. Alternately, try and
find a font that looks like the one being displayed in your browser.
 3) Make a note of the font name,
 4) Go to [Hard Drive] / WINDOWS / Fonts (or wherever your fonts live on your PC)
 5) Change the view so that you can see the Font Names (in Win XP
change the view to 'details').
 6) Find the file with the same name as the font found in #3
 7) Delete the pesky bastard
 8) Re-Open your browser and check that that fixed the problem.

Thanks
Luke
