I would like to know the disposition of patients following surgical
procedures. Of the ~30 million surgeries performed annually, how many
people are discharged home, admitted to the hospital ward, or admitted
to the ICU?
Asking the same question in a different manner, what are the sources
fo patients for an ICU? I believe there are ~45,000 beds, but what %
are medical ICU versus surgical ICU?
If you can find the source that documents this information, I'll tip an extra $50. |

Hi inlight-ga,
I have been unable to locate an authoritative up to date source for
the information you seek that is freely available. Very recently,
however, a report was published by the Society of Critical Care
Medicine surveying ICU's around the US looking at the types of details
you are interested in, as well as many more that you may potentially
find useful. The report is available for ~$200. The plan of the
organization publishing this report is that segments of it will become
available in peer-reviewed journals. This takes some time, however.
Please let me know if information on how to obtain this resource, and
the initial survey on which it was based would serve as an answer to
your question.
