Question ID: 553753
I recently downloaded a tryout version of Adobe Photoshop CS2 on my
computer. When I click to open a .pdf file (say, as an email
attachment), it is opening in Photoshop, rather than in Acrobat Reader
6.0. How can I get a .pdf file to automatically open in Acrobat
instead of Photoshop?

Hi!!

Try This:
Open MyPC --> Tools --> Folder Options --> File Types --> Scroll down
until you see the PDF extension under Registered file types --> Select
PDF extension --> click Change buttonunder Details for PDF --> at the
prompted window select the Adobe Acrobat program.

An easier way to do the same is:
1. Open a folder containing a PDF file.
2. Right-click the PDF and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab, click Change.
4. Click the name of the program in which you want the file to open.

For further references see:
"Microsoft Windows XP - Change the program that opens a file"
(this method is similar to all versions of Windows)
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/folderopt_overview.mspx

Search strategy:
"associated program"
"folder options"

Hope that this helps you. Feel free to request for a clarification if you need it.

Thank you for a prompt and comprehensive answer. The "Open MyPC"
however, was actually "My Computer" on my machine.
