 At http://www.umich.edu/~bhl/RoseBowl/ , you find the entire history
of U Mich at the Rosebowl. For the years you mentioned, they played
once:

Jan. 1, 1951 Rose Bowl against California, and won 14- 6.

Don Dufek, FB was awarded Player of the Game .

***************************************************************

As to Michigan State:

Using the strategy:"michigan state" +football +1949, I found:

http://enlightenedspartan.com/history/history.htm . Here I looked at
the history of the team and found:
http://enlightenedspartan.com/history/history.pdf . Unfortunately,
this pdf is done as a graphic and I have no way to insert a graphic
into a Google Answers answer. Click on that link and scroll to 1949
for all the data you require by year for the Spartans.

They did play the Rosebowl in 1954 against UCLA and won 28 to 20.

The Rose Bowls from 1949-1954 were:

1 Jan 1949 Northwestern vs California
2 Jan 1950 Ohio State vs California
1 Jan 1951 Michigan vs California
1 Jan 1952 Illinois vs Stanford
1 Jan 1953 USC vs Wisconsin
1 Jan 1954 Michigan State vs UCLA

I would have like to have posted the entire seasons for Michigan Sate,
but as mentioned, couldonly find it in .pdf format. Do see the above
mentioned .pdf for the details.

I trust this has provided the information you desired.

On the banks of the Red Cedar
Is a school that's known to all;
Its specialty is winning,
And those Spartans play good ball;
Spartan teams are never beaten,
All through the games they fight;
Fight for the only colors,
Green and White.
Go right thru' for MSU,
Watch the points keep growing.
Spartan teams are bound to win,
They're fighting with a vim.
RAH! RAH! RAH!
See their team is weakening,
We're going to win this game.
Fight! Fight! Rah! Team, Fight!
Victory for MSU.
