Hi!

Google Answers Researchers are quite wary of questions asking for an
"ALL" inclusive list of things. Usually you may miss some elements in
the answer plus you will never be sure if you got all of them.

I can assemble a list of 30+ companies.

Would this be ok as an answer?

Thanks!

I'd like at least 100, prefferably 1,000+. A good clue is that they
all have to file IRS form 1120-REIT. Perhaps you can get a list of all
of those from the IRS?

Kind regards

Toby

Hi again!

The IRS does not have an available list on their website. I think aI
can assemble a list of 100 companies.

Would 100 be enough as you stated above? Before I start, I want to
make sure if this will be enough as a satisfactory answer.

Thanks!

Probably not, I'm looking for at least 1,000+. I think the IRS should
have a list of compaines that file their 1120-REIT form. That would be
where the answer comes from.

The only available IRS analysis of form 1120's indicates that the IRS
received only about 400 such forms during the year the data was
analyzed. I think your expectation of 1,000+ names might be
unrealistc.

I have found a list of about 500 privately-held REITs, which is
formatted like this:

1000 Connecticut Avenue Assoc Washington, DC

Aames Investment Corp Los Angeles, CA

Alanda Ltd Fort Myers, FL

Alexandria RE Equities Pasadena, CA

Amerivest Properties, Inc Denver, CO

Apple Hospitality Five, Inc Richmond, VA

Archon Group Chatham, NJ

Archstone-Smith Operating Trust Englewood, CO

......and so on.

Would that list of about 500 meet your needs?

infoaristo-ga,

Sorry.,.but the list I have is in the format I described above.
There isn't any additional contact information beyond what I listed
already.

Let me know if it's still of interest.

I've found one now with about 700 names with contact details, so it
wouldn't be of interest.

Kind regards

Glad you found what you need.

I'm curious to know what you came up with, so if you can share the
resource, that would be much appreciated.

All the best,

Sure, I went to:
http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?company=&CIK=&filenum=&State=&SIC=6798&owner=include&action=getcompany

I found out that 6798 was the SIC code for REITs.

Thanks for your help.

Interesting.

Perhaps I misinterpreted what you meant by "privately held" REITs.

I had assumed the the REITs listed by the SEC were public companies,
while the list I had obtained was for REITs listed as "private".

I do see some (about half) of the companies on my list included on the
SEC list as well, so I'm really not sure just how the distinction
between private and public companies is being made when it comes to
REITs.

Thanks for posting the link, though...it's some good food for thought.

Public reits have publicly tradable shares(and will have a ticker symbol).

For the record, I checked out that REIT list you found, infoaristo,
and it does indeed contain a number of publicly traded REITS. There
are more 218 REITs and 68 property managers with stock trading on U.S.
exchanges. I'd wager that removing those names from your list would
yield a list that roughly corresponds to pafalafa's.
