I have heard that certain sound tones can make people physically ill, causing them to become dizzy/nauseated, throw up or faint, and that the military has considered using sonar weapons. Is this true and -- if so -- I need to know the following: a. Who is the expert in this type of thing? b. What tones/volume can cause this to happen? c. Can the "ordinary Joe" make this happen? Are there any cases of people doing this? Thanks! |

This is great, elids! What I am looking for -- to be precise -- is can you produce feelings of nausea, malaise, et al within a confined space (such as a room)... not necessarily over a field of battle? |

If I remember correctly, a sound of 7 Hertz(on the fringes of the human ear's hearing range) invokes nausea in the majority of humans. This is because it is the same "natural frequency" of the stomach, and so leads to resonance, causing the stomach to vibrate and therefore regurgitate. This is the same phenomenon that caused in the past some very famous cases of bridges twisting and collapsing in certain speed winds. Hope this helps. |

If you want to cause a whole room to feel ill just from sound, the best means is this: "C'mon everyone...it's time to do the Macarena!" |

I also found an electronic circuit in my travels that generates frequencies that cause Nausea, Headaches, and general disorientation. http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schematics/weaponry/sonicnauseagenerator.pdf the file is quite bluury (looks to be scanned, I can reproduce it for you if you like). I am also looking for the components so I can build one of these and see if it actually works. |

There is a show on discovery channel(in canada) that is called mythbusters, they search for these kinds of myths and other popular beliefs and they test them in a scientific manner, thay have tested this myth once and I sugest you to read about this at www.discoverychannel.ca I personaly believe that the army did research that subject but found that it was not usable for them(since we never saw it in riot patrols) |
