OK, there is a movie, about nuclear fallout (I think), made in the
eighties....it includes a story about a family, and in once scene
there is the main character, the mother, who kills a
rat in the pantry for eating peanut butter, and then it shows her one by
one, ripping and then sewing sheets to cover her children who have
died? She has to take them to the crematorium (or such, in the movie,
basically its
just a pit) Then she tried to kiss the pastor from her church because
of her grief. Do you know the movie I am talking about? It also has
a scene where the young daughter wants to feed the dog, but the sister
says no becuase there is no food to share. Anyone know what this
movie is? Its NOT 'The Day After' from 83. I thought it was too, and
bought it, and its not. I thought it was called something like the
day after....but I'm not sure. I've searched and searched, and can't
find it.

Hi,
Was it:

Testament (1983) Directed by Lynne Littman http://imdb.com/title/tt0086429/
Father Hollis Mann is played by actor Philip Anglim
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&safe=off&q=philip+anglim&spell=1

"the film shows what happens to a suburban family in the Pacific
Northwest after a nearby nuclear attack. As it turns out, those killed
by the initial blast are the lucky ones; Alexander and her family must
suffer through radiation poisoning and sickness, the daily diminution
of life this causes, and, for Alexander, the eventual deaths of those
around her. Quietly powerful and never overstated"

"Testament" is among my favorite movies; I've seen it several times.
Though the last time I watched it was a couple of years ago, I'm
confident that it's the correct answer. In my recollection, it has
most or all of the scenes you describe.
