Is it legal for residents of Thailand to play online poker for U.S. dollars in Thailand? I.e., can a resident of Thailand legally go online and play at partypoker.com? Clarification -- I do not want to know if it is legal to operate an online poker website in Thailand. |

Hi there, I'm from South-east Asia, and from what I know, it is not illegal to gamble online, because the internet casinos are simply too far out of the jurisdiction of the local government. However, MONETARY controls have been enacted to prevent cheques from these online gaming websites from being honoured. This means that you can fund an online gaming account using credit cards, cheques, etc, but you can't WITHDRAW any of your winnings (if any). Therefore, the majority of people have given up on online gaming, resorting to illegal local book-keepers who deal with cash instead. Hope this helps you. Cheers, Charles |
