Hello! I am looking for an old Dilbert comic with the punch line that waiting for web pages to load has negated the productivity of the industrial revolution. Any chance you can track that down - or narrow down a range of days it might have run on? Thanks! Alise |

Here is a scan of the Dilbert strip to which you refer: Al Donovan's Dilbert Pages: Dilbert 05-05-1997 http://pag.csail.mit.edu/~adonovan/dilbert/show.php?day=5&month=5&year=1997 My search strategy took a roundabout method. After having tried several Google Image searches that failed, I located the strip's date of publication here: "Dilbert (cartoon of 5/5/97) claimed that the 'total time that humans have waited for Web pages to load...cancels out all the productivity gains of the information age.' Dilbert is certainly not the only curmudgeon who has questioned whether the spread of information technology has brought with it benefits that are consistent with either the amount of computer investment or the vast increase in computer speed." The Centre for the Study of Living Standards: The Solow Productivity Paradox http://www.csls.ca/events/cea1998/revpaper.asp This was the search string that led me to the CSLS quote: Google Web Search: dilbert productivity ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dilbert+productivity Once I had the date of publication, I went to Al Donovan's Dilbert Pages, where I found the cartoon strip. I hope this is precisely what you need! If it is not, or if a link doesn't work for you, please request clarification; I'll gladly offer further assistance before you rate my answer.
