Help! I am unable to unmute my microphone volume under the sound
recording/volume/recording control in the "sound and multimedia"
options of the control panel. Because of this I cannot hear when
someone speaks to me over microsoft gamevoice. How can I fix this?
Thanks!

phantazem...

I'm confused. If you are unable to unmute your microphone,
this might imply that a program has control over that
function. However, this would simply leave your microphone
muted. That would seem to make it so that others couldn't
hear you, rather than that you cannot hear them.

hi phantazem

why is it that you cannot unmute the microphone?
Is it greyed out, and won't let you deselect it?
Or is it not present, and you need to add it?
Did you goto Options/properties and select adjust
for recording?

And like sublime said... how is it that your
microphone being muted keeps you from hearing
others?

Also - are you talking about the Microsoft GameVoice software or the
actual hardware device? If you mean the hardware, don't forget it has
a microphone mute plunger in the centre of it.. ..you need to have it
pushed in to activate your microphone.

When I am using microsoft gamevoice software, I can hear myself when I
speak into the mic through the headset, but I cannot hear when others
speak to me. I believe that the cause of this is in the control
panel. When I select the audio tab under sounds and audio devices,
and the select the volume button under "sound recording", the mic's
select box is checked off (not greyed out, just checked). When I try
to un-check it, the check simply won't go away - it keeps reappearing.
Note: I just installed a new sound blaster audigy card and I never
had this problem when I was using the motherboard's onboard sound.

If you're in the "recording control" dialog, does the check box you're
trying to uncheck by any chance say "select" next to it? if so, the
reason you can't uncheck it is because it's really more of a radio
button, it's really letting you choose which single recording source
is the active one. If you clicked on the select box for another
column, like "line in", the "microphone" box would uncheck.

In any case, this would affect whether other people could hear you,
not whether you could hear other people--to hear other people, you
should be changing the playback properties, not your recording
properties.... or perhaps the person you're playing with needs to
adjust *their* recording properties....

Hello!
This may be what you're looking for, i'm not sure.

Open the 'Volume Control' program (With the Sliders for volume of a
few types aswell as mute buttons)

Click Options, Properties, Recording

Make sure The 'Box' next to Microphone is checked

Click 'OK'

Now there will be diffrent 'Settings' that you can change, one of
which is Microphone. Make sure it's not muted and raise the 'slide
bar' to the top.

And please tell me if it worked!

Thanks!
