My word 2000 ALWAYS opens with 12 font, and I like 14. I have to
remember to change it at the outset or select and change all after.
But I like to see how it goes as I type. Why cant I set the new blank
to always start with 14 please?

Hi leetim,

The following procedure will allow you to change your Font size to 14
in Microsoft Word:

In a new Word Document go to Format > Font.

Change the font size to 14.

Click Default.

You will be asked if you want the new settings to apply to all new
documents. Click Yes.

Jingoes Rainbow-ga, you are a ball of fire. Yes it was indeed in the
factory startup - it was pdfmaker.dot which I changed to .old, and it
is gone. And I printed a file with distiller and went back to see if
pdfmaker.dot had been recreated, but it had not. So it must have been
something else that gave me the problem. I thank you most profusely,
but before I close this question, do you think you could give me some
advice on how to set the default fontsize in wordpad. I know wordpad
is a cut down version of word, and I did read somewhere that it was
crippled on purpose and maybe you cant change the default to 14? I
like wordpad sometimes when I want to get into something quickly, as
it opens much faster. Thanks

Yes that works very well. I knew there must be something but trawling
help and word for dummies, never mentioned this. A bit sad when you
think that almost EVERY moderate user would want to do this sooner or
later to save changing every time. Particularly when diving in to
write letter and finding at end must change font! You very kindly
offered to help me with any question on this, and although your answer
is perfect, I have stuffed up my program, in trying to get to that
process.(Not from your answer which worked fine, but previously) I
thought I had to change the new blank, and somehow must have got mixed
up with vba, because when opening word it says 'compile error in
hidden module : auto exec' I have tried going into vba and looking to
unprotect this document, because somewhere I read that you had to
remove protection before getting rid of the document or something.
Anyway there is no protection in alpha or categorised, so I removed
word - rebooted and reinstalled, but still the error comes up. I just
say okay and it goes away but it is a bit disconcerting and I would
like to get rid of the message. Do you know what I have done in trying
to change this font thing and getting the error?

Hi leetim,

Go down to number 4:

If you get an error message as soon as Word opens, but it doesn't
crash (e.g. ?Compile Error in Hidden Module?)

I hope that helps.
