Question ID: 555258
I have been using Vonage VoIP in U.S. and always got dial tone when I
moved to different locations. I moved to Shanghai, China this week and
unable to get a dial tone. The LinkSys router phone LEDs keep
blinking. I called Vonarage and local Chinese ISP and got the
following responses.
Vonage level 2 tech support: "UDP ports 5060-5062, 10000-20000, 69, 23
must be open." China ISP: "We do not block any port"
I cannot get both Vonage and Chinese ISP to debug. What can I do to
get VoIP dal tone?

Have you tried using a differnet ISP in China to see if they really
aren't blocking the ports? I would say it's the ISP from what you
said above.

Just my opinion anyway.

I have recently moved to Shanghai as well, and I brought my UK Vonage
router, Linksys RT31P2-VU to use in Shanghai.

I am with China Telcom with a 8 Mbit ADSL connection and there's no
problems with getting a dial tone. Line quality to the UK is a bit
bad, however. What ISP and connection do you have?

I did get a similar problem with not getting a dial tone in the UK,
whcih was due to the fact that the power from the router was not
enough to power the phone, which was a standalone one without a
seperate power supply.

So even though the phone was active, so you can dial out, there was no
dial tone and no ring when other people call in. Can you see if you
can call someone in the US, by dialing blind basically.
