greatest tenors of the 20th century: Some experts may claim that the
"greatest" ones are all dead, leaving unfortunately only shellac
recordings, while the great ones still living don't count among the
"greatest".

THAT ANSWER IS A COMPLETE COP OUT AND COMPLETELY NOT WORTH THE $ 5.00

There are at least 16 tenors a and surely some of them are the greates
of the living tenors.

Dear 310116,

Myoarin did not provide an answer, but a comment. You will be not
charged for your $5

However, "great tenor" is a matter of taste: one could not compile a
comprehensive list that would be agreed by all, that would include all
"greatest tenors".

Sorry, 310116, and thanks Politicalguru. I should have mentioned that myself.

If you have a short list of 16 tenors, that would be a start. You
will know which are still alive, but maybe the list could be augmented
with reknowned tenors that are not on it. But that demonstrates the
problem. If you agree: "Oh, yeah, him too," or respond: "nah, second
tier," the definition of "greatest" is yours, which is fair enough.
That is the difficulty with a question of this type.
THIS IS NO PERSONAL CRITICISM, just the problem with this sort of question.

Is Mario Lanza on your list? Many thought him to be a very great
tenor; others did not because he "wasted" his talent by not singing
classical opera.

I am interested in your list of 16 tenors, but I cannot offer any
opinion about their relative "greatness."

I'd say Ben Heppner, but his voice isn't what it used to be.
