Hi there Stefan!
That is a fantastic idea, it is much better to give away old furniture
than to throw it in a skip.
Up here in Cardiff we have one such charity called Track 2000 who
refurbish un-wanted furniture and pass it on to people who can't
really afford to buy it, such as those on benefits etc.
There are quite a few more of these in London, both fairly central and
on the borders in Surrey and Middlesex.
One such charity, Quaker Social Action, are based in the East End/City
and will happily take any furniture off your hands. I found these via
a Guardian article [
http://society.guardian.co.uk/charity/story/0,7834,544949,00.html ]
which then linked to their site at [ http://www.quakersocialaction.com
].
Another one in Forest Gate, called the BIA Homestore are not on the
web but I found their contact details which are :

There are lot's of others around who are usually either supported by
their local borough council or by a religious organisation. I found a
site which has a long list of all the charities who perform this work
in the South of England - they are on the internet at : [
http://www.recycle.mcmail.com/content.htm ].
I have picked out the ones based in the London area and provided
quotes from the above site to save you some time - just choose the
closest!
