I've done a lot of research on the Planet X/Niburu theory and there's
plenty of evidence and websites against the notion, such as
Badastronomy.com. But there are also plenty of flakey notions that it
still exists. I came across an anonymous poster who made the statement
there is a large, dense material object headed at us in the year 2012
(a watershed year for the flakos!) At this
http://survive2012.com/bast_theory.php website, the following
statement was made in the visitor's comments section:
There are many objects that are on course for earth in the millions
some large some small we do have meteor showers there path can always
be altered by collisions in space and there will be millions more that
have not been detected in realistic terms a hit could happen any
second we can?t track all objects in space just to many and if people
did there research they would find there have been recorded near
misses that were only detected at the last moment the large object
that will pass or hit earth sometime in 2012 is very large and by
tests seems to be dense matter but cant determine what exactly its
made from yet depending on its speed and gravitation attraction will
depend if it hits or misses its possible that it can go into orbit but
such a thing is so slight but has happened to earth in the past i.e.
the moon there are many creators on earth and other planets in the sol
system also see our moon so an impact is possible from space .
Any truth to this notion or just pseudoscience? Thank you.

There are about 30 NEO's being tracked for a closest approach in 2012
-- the nearest is predicted as close as 0.1 LD, or one-tenth the
distance to the moon.

What, exactly, is your question though? Do you want to know about these 30 NEOs?

The website I pulled this statement from tends toward the apocalyptic
supposed Mayan calendar end in 2012. I have many resources that give
me a true picture, according to experts, of what that means.
Unfortunately that year has attracted many new doomsayers and the
assertion from one of those people I highlight here:"...The large
object
that will pass or hit earth sometime in 2012 is very large and by
tests seems to be dense matter but cant determine what exactly its
made from yet depending on its speed and gravitation attraction will
depend if it hits or misses..." [sic].
My question, pafalafa (hi!),is whether there is any validity to this
claim of a "dense matter" large object careening towards Earth.
Everything I've read states there are no known NEO's on course in the
immediate future, norevidence of a "large object".Was just wondering
if there is something I missed in my current knowledge of space
objects, or if this is simply another unsubstantiated claim by another
2012 doomsayer? Thanks for your answer.

citizena-ga,

Have a look at this link from NASA's Near Earth Object Program:

http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/ca/

It is a list of NEOs being tracked by NASA, with a close-approach date
in August or September of this year.

A few things to note about NEO's:

--there are plenty of them...several per week. It's certainly no
surprise to find that NASA has dozens listed for a close approach in
2012. If you'd like, I can provide details about these 2012-NEO's as
an answer to your question.

--Generally, astronomers are looking at really, really large objects,
like stars and planets. In contrast, the NEOs are miniscule, and very
hard to gather information about.

--Will something hit us in 2012??? Could be! There are dozens of
"dense" objects out there that are potential astro-missiles headed in
the general direction of earth, and due to arrive around 2012.

--But right now, the state of our knowledge about NEOs is such that
predictions more than, say, a year into the future are very, very
speculative. Something might hit us in 2012, or it (much more likely)
will simiply pass the planet Earth by a very large distance.

I can give you more information about the 2012 NEOs if that would meet
your needs. Let me know what you think.

I was just trying to see if there was anything specfically identified
that was a danger in 2012. The person who posted it made the statement
that:
"The large
object
that will pass or hit earth sometime in 2012 is very large and by
tests seems to be dense matter but cant determine what exactly its
made from yet depending on its speed and gravitation attraction will
depend if it hits or misses..." [sic]."
This anonymous poster may just be blowing smoke and using scare
tactics. I am aware that an object could hit any given day, but
wondered if there was something to his "prediction". If your research
turns up anything let me know, but so far, apart from what certain
self-appointed prophets are saying, I haven't been able to come up
with a known object, identified by real astronomers. Have you? Thanks.

I'm not sure how I can help you, beyond identifying and describing the
few dozen NEOs (some of them quite large) that are being tracked with
an expected 'visit' date in 2012.

Perhaps another researcher will be able to figure out how to better assist you.

P.S. I also checked newspaper reports. A large asteroid is due for a
visit in 2036, and this is the most 'notorious' NEO to receive public
attention.

It disappears behind the sun, and will not be visible for study again
until 2012...this is the only significance of that date that I can
see.

I think you answered my question, that is, if you have checked all
resources available to you. If all the scientific research available
does not confirm the dubious, unreferenced posting by the anonymous
person, then there, fortunately is nothing headed at Earth in 2012. I
think the anonymous poster I had read was either misinformed, or
deliberately posting false information.
