Hi,

Developing a small script to automate the sending of a file through a
third party storage service, such as the ones available for free, and
send the link to the recipient.

The part where one would define a personal FTP server, ID and password
is easy and has taken place, but the idea of helping those whom don't
have those ready worries me.

Requirements list:

1. List of free storage services.

2. Explanation at a programmer level of the suggested automated
utilization of those services and if possible with samples of code
snippets from the net (optional). I'm assuming some services may have
API's, would like to know about them if possible.

Thank you.

Hello Mao

Thank-you for your question.

I have investigated the available online storage services but
unfortunately I have been unable to find one with an API available.
This means that whichever service you decide upon you would need to
develop a script that automatically posts the information to the
service.

This should be relatively simple to achieve in perl, php or similar
scripting language as you are essentially writing a program to mimic a
user using the service. Most of these services simply require a user
to log in and submit a form to send a file to the online servers, this
is something I have automated numerous times in perl.

Additionally as you stated in your question a lot of the providers
allow you to FTP files to the online provider, again this is a
relatively simple task in perl.

Depending on your needs it may also be possible to automate an email
provider to store and retrieve files. Some email providers now
provide in excess of 2Gb of webspace for free. An example of this
would be a solution such as the Gmail Drive extension (note this is
not supported by Google):
