Hi,
That is a tough question to answer - it could be quite subjective.
There are over 30 manufacturers of side by sides!
You might want to check out customer ratings on such products at
online shopping portals:
I have sorted them by ratings (note: not all of the have been rated):
Shoppping.Com
http://www.shopping.com/xPP-Refrigerators--side_by_side~S-214~OR-1
PriceGrabber
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php/page_id=767/popup1[]=10:1658/sortby=rating
Now, if you decide on a specific model or brand and need a comparison,
thats something a little easier to answer.
Regards

Hello herrkahn-ga,
It would help if you would define the three criteria you've listed --
"reliability, convenience and performance." Please also tell us what
features you're looking for, what size refrigerators you're
considering buying in what price range and how you rank your criteria.
Also, please tell us where you are (region, country) becuase what's
available may depend on location. Also, some locations offer special
rebates for switching to energy-saver units. What research have you
done on your own and have you reached some conclusions based on that
research. The more you tell us about your situation, the more likely
we will be able to get you the information you need. Thanks.

Hi there,landog and czh,
Okay, let me try to organize my thoughts and be a little more
specific. I am looking for a 36" side-by-side refrigerator that has
the best track record with regard to durability. For example, I've had
several friends tell me horror stories about sub-zero -- that it kept
breaking down and required frequent service calls. That is my foremost
goal: to purchase a fridge that will humm happily away over the years
and will develop few, if any, maladies. I also want one with a
stainless steel door (the fridge doesn't have to be built-in) and the
best design in terms of the accessibility of the items in both the
fridge and the freezer. I've searched the net, but the info is pretty
overwhelming and I haven't gotten any clear indication of which models
are best. Price is not an issue, although I think that one pays more
for the sub-zero name (ie, prestige) than for the item itself. I've
considered Jenn-Air, but haven't had time to really research this
systematically. I'm located in New Jersey, which may or may not be an
advantage! I hope I've been a LITTLE more specific? Keep firing away
with the questions and I'll do my best to respond.
Thanks so much for your help!!

Hello herrkahn-ga,
The July, 2005 issue of Consumer Reports has a detailed report on
Rating Refrigerators. You can subscribe either monthly or yearly. The
article is very comprehensive and covers all the options. Kenmore is
very highly rated in most refrigerator categories. Jenn-Air is in the
middle of the pack. Sub-Zero is only available as a built-in and it
rates high in that category.
Would full information about how to access the Consumer Reports
article and highlights of what to look for be a satisfactory answer?
Thanks.

Good morning,czh,
Many thanks! I actually subscribed to consumer reports on-line and
will go back and look at that issue. Hopefully, that will do the
trick. Thanks for all your help!
Lisa
**By the way, I have to go through this same process re. a dishwasher.
Should I use that same approach for that?
