There is a song used in many films and TV shows. I am sure it is
called aloha oe and has been recorded by many artists. I am looking
for a very famous version that has no vocals - just a sleepy sounding
guitar. I really love this song, but I have know idea of this version
- it pops up on commercials and tv shows in the uk quite often. |

Hi snapdharlich,
Please go down to number 14 to Aloha 'Oe (instrumental) George
Kahumoku and listen to a sample.

Is this the song you are looking for?

Thanks for a speedy response...
Sorry but no -
If you listen to the Elvis version, you hear an electric guitar in
the background (I don't know any way to describe it other than
Hawaiian guitar - you know the kind of whiney glissando wah wah sound)
- In the version I'm after it is the main melodic instrument and a bit
slower - there is an accompaniment - I wish I could explain better!

Sorry no.
It's pretty professional sounding with an electric based (hawaiian?) guitar.
Cheers for your help so far

I'll guess this version:
"Beyond the Reef," by Buddy Merrill [track 12]
MSN Music

If not, then here are two other possibilities:
"Johnny Bellar/David Lay/Linda Lay"

"Tony Ku, Tomomi Sugiura" [track 1]
MSN Music

If I've found the right one, I would be happy to post it as an answer.

Hi,
The Buddy Merrell sounds closest, that is, not track 12 but the last
track of the album (Aloha oe). It just sounds really slow compared to
the version I'm thinking of. The Johnny Bellar sounds more the tempo,
but is getting away from the melodic line with too much ornamentation.

Sorry, I meant track 16 of the Buddy Merrill album.
I suspect I'm thinking of the same version as you are. It must be out
there -- it's just a matter of finding it among the many recordings of
the song.
I don't have time to look now. But I'll try again soon, if no one beats me to it.

I would love to say someone got it right, but alas no. Am I really
destined never to find the correct version? - I'm kind of getting a
bit sick of listening to various versions of this song - It's not THAT
good. 7 days left - Please try to get it. Thanks for all your efforts.
