Question ID: 55613
I'm writing a business plan for an educational tutoring business and I
need market data, both domestic (U.S. and Canada) and international,
on the K-12 tutoring market (particularly reading and math markets).
Specifically, I'd like to know (1) how big the market is in terms of
student numbers and dollars annually, (2) how the market breaks down
demographically (age, sex, household income, race, ethnicity, etc.),
(3) who is providing tutoring services and their respective market
shares (companies, mom and pop shops, retired teachers, etc.), (4) how
fast the market has been growing in the last five years, and (5) what
the market's projected growth rate is over the next five years.
Sources of this market information are also needed.

Hello jackschiff-ga,

I have found a report online for $165, titled "Child Education and
Services Survey 2002", that you may be interested in.

Here is an excerpt :

"In August of 2002, FranchiseHelp completed its first survey of
franchised companies operating in the Child Development and
Educational business. In all, we have surveyed a total of 14
franchised brands. Educational services cover childcare, proprietary
schools, educational publishing, school supplies, training, tutoring,
consulting, and e-services. The Wall Street Journal recently ranked
Child Learning and Computer Centers as the number one type of
franchise, as forecasted by annual growth.

The need for child education & services businesses stems, in part,
from an increasing children population and working parents with more
disposable income, and greater needs for services that they no longer
can personally provide. "

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for. Will you accept the
link to this report (you need to purchase it) as an answer?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

kyrie26-ga you have already given the answer away. I can list the URL
but that would be unethical. However, can you have this kind of report
available on the net for free? What is the fun of buying a book?

I have already purchased a copy of the "Child Education and Services
Survey 2002" report prepared by FranchiseHelp. To my dismay it didn't
have any market data. Rather, it was a summary of information gleaned
from the Uniform Franchise Offering Circulors of various franchisors
in the education space (eg. franchise fees, royalties, terms of
franchise agreement, number of franchises, etc.). What I'm looking
for is hard market data on the domestic tutoring market. No one has
come up with anything as yet.
