'ello. I'm looking for as much information as possible about the UK
TFT market: value, how quick is it growing, how many are sold each
year, how many are predicted to be sold in the future, break down on
sizes would be good, how the UK market compares to other European
countries in terms of size, value and growth.
I'm aware of some of the market research websites that charge $1000
for this sort of info but that seems like a lot of money for one
question.
Many thanks in advance

Hi, Tim!

At the risk of sounding like an apologist for high prices, let me try
to put this in perspective for you.

The researcher who takes on your question will receive $7.50 US of
taxable income. Many researchers, including myself, are outside the
US and pay hefty penalties to cash US cheques, and we experience
firsthand the effects of any fluctuation in the exchange rates.

Depending on the individual researcher's personal preferences and cost
of living, that $7.50 will buy you anywhere from fifteen minutes to
one hour of a researcher's time. With a question as comprehensive as
yours, typically one hour of research will barely establish WHERE to
look for sales figures and projections. More usually, questions like
this require hours of diligent digging, interspersed with days of
waiting for replies to our e-mails.

Consider the following questions, similar to your own.

https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=18074
https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=20464
https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=23509

All of these were complex questions, covering approximately as much
ground as the one you've posed. Each answer was carefully and
painstakingly researched.

Now, please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that no researcher
will tackle your question at this price point. And at any price,
should a researcher decide to take your question, you will receive a
competently-researched reply.

However, your chances of getting an answer are better, if the price
you offer is more appropriate to the amount of work involved.

Google Answers staff have recently put together a guide for our users,
to demonstrate what level of information is appropriate to expect at a
given price point. Here is the link:

Hi Tim

I wanted to follow up chromedome's excellent commentary by adding the
following:

You stated in your question that "I'm aware of some of the market
research websites that charge $1000 for this sort of info but that
seems like a lot of money for one question."

In fact, your original question asks not one but at least SEVEN
separate questions (e.g. value, speed of growth, breakdown of sizes,
etc). $1000/7 = $142.85 per question.

I find simple calculations such as the one above tend keep
expectations focused for all parties concerned.

Fair enough.

As this was the first time that I have used this service I had very
little idea as to where to pitch the price point.

I take your comments in the spirit that they were meant and will
review my question and price point.

I didn't really realise quite how thoroughly the questions were
researched - I just expected a short answer with some figures. Having
read the links that you have included in your reply I now have a
better undersatnding of how this whole system works - consider me
re-educated!
Many thanks for your comments and advice.
Tim.
