I have deleted a file by writing over it.  I am using WP 10 on a
computer that runs Windows XP home ed.  Is there anyway I can recover
the data?

No. Sorry. Not without taking your computer to some high-priced
(hundreds plus) recovery service, and even then, it's iffy.

If you mean you wrote over the file by saving a file with the same
name in the same folder or directory then the fat lady has sung.

As myexpertsonline-ga mentioned, a recovery service may be able to
help you out but they are expensive, Fortunately some companies will
evaluate your drive or disk first for free to see if they can help you
out, then you can either accept or reject their quote.
