I am using Microsoft Word 2003 and am having a problem with the spell
check. I have already gone through the help section point by point
with no luck.

The problem is that in a roughly 40 page document there are three
pages that the spell check for some reasons fails to see. The text in
the areas above and below this section can be corrected by spell check
but not the text in the section.

When the sections text is copied into a new document the problem
persists. If you start typing in the section that spell check works in
and continue through the area that it did not the spell check works.

How can we can this section spell checked and fixed?

Hello Stevedm,

One possible cause is that the "language" of the text has spell check
disabled. Try the menu
  Tools -> Language...
the first item on the list of languages is labeled (no proofing) and
if I set that, the spell check is disabled.

I am not using Word 2003 so the prompts may be slightly different on your system.

Please let me know if this is the cause of your problem so I can
properly complete the answer. If not, I can search for other causes
(or solutions).

Hi Stevedm,

Here's a solution with exact instructions:

Does Not Spell Check - Word 2003 (and possibly Xp Word 2002, 2000, 97)
http://domino.lancs.ac.uk/pub/usghelpdesk.nsf/0/DF1B055703F6261A80256F8F0045EA6C?OpenDocument

If the spell checker passes over areas of text and does not pick-up
mis-spelt words it is possible that the text has been marked not to be
checked.

To solve this problem do the following:
1. highlight the area which won't spell check.
2. click 'Tools' menu then the 'Language' option, then 'Set Language' option.
3. ensure that 'Do not check spelling or grammar' option is NOT selected.
4. click

The Spell Check should check the area now.

Best regards,
tlspiegel

Hello Stevedm,

Since you mention that none of these solutions work, could you please
post a sample file in a public location (and post the URL as part of a
question clarification) so one of us can diagnose the problem. Don't
do all forty pages, a page or two would be plenty as long as it shows
the symptom. [you can certainly remove the file after the question is
answered]

Different reasons are covered here:

Sure it works, but there has to be a better fix for this problem. To
ask the client to do all that to enable the spell check in a section
is ludacrous. Furthermore, it does not "stick", in that the next time
this occurs, you have to go through the same process. That's
unacceptable.

Anyone else have an answer to this problem?

These suggestions are helpful but none of them work. I tried those and
many more things before I posted here.

try this easy fixes:

1. "Save as" your document in RTF format in diferant name. reopen the
rtf file and see if it worked or not if so than save it in doc format.

also try it with word-97 format.

there are some hidden maks applied to your document
non-working(spelling) section, when you convert a document in a old
format they will get removed.
