I have been searching and searching the Internet to no avail. My mom is 83 and physically disabled. One of her molar teeth recently broke and it has been causing her some distress. Her caretaker told me that there are "mobile dentists" who come to your home to provide dental services. When I spoke to my mom's dentist he said that he also was aware of their services. Well, slap my face, I NEVER have. My question is: Do home-call dentists exist, and, if so, how do I locate one in the San Francisco Bay Area? |

Wow, this is a toughie. I've found mobile dental services for children, for the homeless, for public aid recipients, and for corporate customers, but nothing for the housebound. This might help: "DENTAL SERVICE Mobile Dentist: Dr. Peter Kawamura, DDS, MS (650) 594-9640 If you are on Medi-Cal, you may be eligible for Denti-Cal to cover the cost of your dental care. Call (800) 322-6384 for more information. For referral to a dentist who makes home visits, call the San Francisco Dental Society at (415) 421-1435." http://www.sfgov.org/site/uploadedfiles/daas/2005HomeboundSvcs.pdf Please let me know if any of this leads anywhere. I can't call these numbers to check this out, so I'm posting the info as a free comment. |

Pink, Just a follow up. I contacted the San Francisco Dental Society - they had a list of eight dentists who they said (SFDC) would provide home service. Not. Only one said that she might, and she was very tentative. I've left a message for Peter Kawamura, and hope that he will at least contact me. This is in no way reflective of your research, but just how poor some of the information at large can be. I'm going to plug away at this as I just can't leave my mother to suffering. In the end, we'll most likely have to find a way to get her out of the house to see a dentist. But, I'll prevail. |
