Question ID: 557192
Is it possible to abandon the rights of ownership of a dwelling on a
piece of property? My husband and his brother received a cottage and
property from their parents. The brother has built a second cottage on
the property for his exclusive use. The brother has not contribited to
the upkeep or renovations on the original building for 10 years. Does
he still "own" half of it?

Please provide the State and Country so that the Property/Real Estate
laws of that location are researched.

Also, I want a clarification regarding 'receiving' (transfer of
ancesral property) of the said property. What does the document state?
Were there any details mentioned in the document about maintainance of
the property?

Thanks.

Hi, the property is Nova Scotia Canada. I do not know if there are any
details in the transfer that include maintainence. My information is
that it was given to the two sons and upon their death(s) it will pass
to the two grandchildren(my children).
