Question ID: 557343
I need to find a ceramic floor tile that has been discontinued. The
only information I have as to a possible manufacturer is "Altair
4327". This may also be the color code. The tile is 13" x 13", pink
or salmon in color with a white glaze design.

Hello chiprocker-ga,

Your question is attractively priced but the information you've
provided is too skimpy to lead to anything. It would be helpful if you
could post a picture to show us the tile you're looking for. You can
use Photobucket or some other photo sharing site to do this.

http://www.photobucket.com/

You indicate that it's a ceramic floor tile. What is the source of the
"Altair 4327" designation? Where is this tile installed? Is it
residential or commercial? Sometimes builders use specific product
lines and vendors so knowing more about who installed the tile might
be helpful.

What quantitiy of tile are you looking for? What other research have
you done and what were the results? The more you can tell us about the
context of your question, the more likely we will be able to get you
the information you need.

I look forward to your clarification.

The tile is in my home. It is on the floor in the lower level of my
atrium ranch. I live in St. Charles County, MO. The builder was
Terbrock. My home was built in 1997. The previous owner gave me the
Altair info from their new home order sheet. I contacted the builder
and was told that they didn't have that information. All pics I've
taken just look cream colored. I just need one tile, but would take
5-10 for future problems. Thanks.

Hello again chiprocker-ga,

I think I?ve found the manufacturer of your tile. Take a look at these
links to see if this is what you?re looking for. The first link takes
you to the catalog page. Use the drop down menus to select Altair
Pink. If the results don?t come up for some reason, check the links
I?ve furnished for several versions of this tile.

Please let me know if this is the right tile. If it is, I will search
for a vendor near you.

I look forward to your clarification.

I just can't tell by the pictures, but the polished sure looks like a
match. If you can find a vendor near me, that would be great!
Thanks!

Hello chiprocker-ga,

I?ve continued my search and it looks like your best bet for getting
this tile will be through a vendor or distributor who already deals
with Imola or has access to the Imola Tile catalog. Finding this tile
in a retail outlet is not likely.

I?ve collected several likely outlets/distributor/vendors who will
probably be able to help you. I think you choosing the appropriate
vendors (instead of me talking to them) is best because you?re the one
who will be able to furnish the necessary information they?ll need,
i.e., delivery address, size, cost, verification of color, etc.

In your clarification you indicated that you?ve contacted the builder
but they weren?t able to help you. I hope that with the additional
information about the source of the tile they will be able to obtain
it for you. I definitely would start with them.

Next, I?ve identified several American distributors of Imolo tiles.
Some of them ask you to fill out an online form so they will send you
their dealer contact information. Others ask for information that you
will need to furnish. You are the best judge of which ones to contact
in what order.

Finally, I?m including information on why I?ve concluded that Imolo is
the manufacturer of your tile so you can go to the source, if
necessary.

Trying to find tiles for your home when you don?t know the
manufacturer or style number is problem many homeowners have to deal
with. I?ve included a link that offers several alternate solutions if
you?re ever in this situation again. The best practice would be to buy
several spare tiles at the time that the initial floor/counter/wall is
tiled so that you have some spares for repairs. Wouldn?t it be great
if all house came with such a repair kit.

I trust that the information I?ve collected will help you get the tile
you?re searching for. Please don?t hesitate to ask for clarification
if any of this is confusing.

All the best.

Tile Newsletter
Altair

The Altair collection is the most technologically advanced project in
the field of fine porcelain stoneware. Altair is the result of a
procedure entirely studied and implemented by Cooperativa Ceramica
d?Imola, using equipment specially designed to provide a special
distribution of the mixes when they are loaded into the presses, with
truly startling results from an aesthetic point of view. The surfaces
of the tiles have veins and stripes which change continuously,
creating a special dynamism which suggests beautiful natural scenery,
depending on the basic colour. Each tile simultaneously reflects
chaos, with its primeval energy, and cosmos, with its beauty and
harmony.

The novelty and importance of the Altair series are confirmed by the
fact that we have decided to make it available in a wide range of
sizes, medium and large (30X30; 40X40; 60X60; 60X120 cm), including
steps (33X 125 cm) and risers (14X125 cm); colours (11); versions
(natural, honed and polished), so each customer can find a solution
tailored to suit his requirements and tastes.

Thanks also to a wide range of accessory fittings, these features make
Altair highly versatile to use: from public use to home use, including
public places with heavy traffic, where a product of exceptional
technological quality is needed which can also offer a great aesthetic
quality, combining the beauty of marble with that of ceramics.

replacing ceramic tiles

Posted by Ken Farr on January 13th, 2001 05:34 PM
Where can I look to find some replacement ceramic tiles for a bath.
Two tiles have been broken, and need to be replaced but I am at a loss
as to who would carry tiles from 15 years ago. While I know an exact
match would be impossible, I would like to come close. I live in the
Chicago area. Can you suggest a retailer that might carry something?
The tiles are 4 inches by 4 inches. i would cosider contrasting tiles
if i can't find a match.

***** The discussions and suggestions on this site might be helpful in
locating additional distributors.
