Read me Dr. Memory...
From the depths of my subconscious, today as I was listening to Elvis
sing "I Got Stung", I had the memory trace of a cover version of this
song, done very close to Elvis', perhaps with him sampled in it, from
Britain, maybe 6 years ago? The video, in my memory, was a lot of
different people in rows of boxes, like a 60's tv show, changing
around, and all the people seemingly singing the song. It was a strong
rock version of "I Got Stung". I also have a notion that it was from a
movie... Of course, it may be another song than "I Got Stung", but
that song is the one that elicited this possible hallucination...
So, my question is: does this memory have a reality? If so, who did
the cover and on what CD can I find it? |

Building on juggler's suggestion, my guess is that you're thinking of
the video for "Brown Eyed Handsome Man," which was the first single of
"Run Devil Run." Perhaps you heard the album, saw the video, and
later attributed the video to a different song on the album. That
would jibe with your suspicion that it might be a different song.
You can hear a clip on the page cited by juggler. I haven't tracked
down the video on the Web; it is available on DVD. I was fortunate
enough to see this (brilliant) video a few years ago; I believe it did
look like this description:
"Starts off with four urban-teen types line dancing to the song,
slowly joined by everyone from Rastafarians to California Highway
Patrolmen! A pair of 'dee-jays' run the show from the cab of a huge
truck in the background. Nice segue of 'DJ scratching' to the intro
of the song. McCartney plays guitar on the screens throughout, ending
up in the pack with the Hofner, and then leading the pack of dancers!"

No boxes, but certainly rows. I believe they're dancing on a blank
white set. (My recollection is a bit fuzzy on this point.) I don't
recall whether they're singing along.
Do you think this is the video?

Dear 1skee,
I think what you remember is the "A Little Less Conversation" video.
The song was a huge hit in Europe in 2002; it was a remix of Elvis'
original song, done by DJ JXL, and issued as by "Elvis vs. JXL". It's
indeed a fast, strong, dynamic rocker, and the video features
different kinds of people in an enormous number of boxes singing the
song, dancing to it, etc.
Do you think that this is the remix you remember? Please let me know.
Greetings,
Scriptor (a big fan of Elvis)

Did no one get the Read me Dr. memory? And how did I get this memory
from "I Got Stung"? Maybe I broke the President....
