How do you bypass the voicemail of someone who uses T-mobile? I would
like to leave a message immediately rather than wait to listen to the
voicemail recording.

Hi initself-ga,

I just spoke to a T-Mobile customer service representative I know. He
said to call 1-805-637-7243, otherwise known as the "Voice Mail Back
Door number." When you hear the prompt, i.e. "Welcome to the T-Mobile
messaging center. Please enter the 10-digit number of the person you
are trying to reach," enter the number. You will then be connected
directly with that person's voicemail. Press "1" to leave a message,
leave your message and hang up.

*Note: this only works if you are not yourself calling from a T-Mobile
phone. If you are, it will then go directly to your own voicemail; you
need to call from another phone or service. Also, I did have a little
trouble getting this to work with my consultant's own number, but he
said he thought that was just a problem with his voicemail, and not
with the technique itself.

So why don't you give it a try, and if it works, and you feel it
answers your question, let me know and I'll post it in the answer box.
If not, perhaps another Researcher has a better solution for you.

Good luck,
Byrd-ga

I am specifically asking about dialing somebody's number directly,
getting their voicemail and bypassing it then and there. With most
major carriers' services (Sprint, Cingular, Verizon), you can press 1
to bypass their voicemail. With T-Mobile, press 1 yields the result
'Sorry, you have pressed an invalid key' and the voicemail repeats.

I see. My apologies - I misunderstood what you were asking!

In that case, try hitting the # key to bypass the greeting. I found
this tip here: http://www.yourcomputerminute.com/category/1/page/4/
(scroll down about halfway)
where a poster says, "Most voicemail systems today let you bypass the
greeting by hitting the pound sign on your phone. I know for sure that
my t-mobile service does."

Let me know if this works.

Cheers,
Byrd-ga

Hi initself-ga,

Thank you so much for letting me know the information I posted
answered your question. I'll go ahead then, and post it here in the
answer box, so the question can be closed. Glad to know it worked! I
agree those interminable voicemail greetings can be very annoying. I
think I'll try this myself.
